Dark Rain has received a 400.000 kr ($70.000) grant from the Norwegian Film Association. This really matters, as we now have all the money we need to finish the game.
I am really sorry that you don’t get any pretty pictures in these and a few of the previous posts, but here is a finely crafted link! Enjoy!
We at Rain Games have a presence in a lot of different Internet media. In an attempt to make it a bit more interconnected, this Tumblr account has now been linked to the Twitter account @rain_games, that has further been linked to the Rain Games Facebook page.
This post is the first to tumble down this pipeline as a test. Let us see if it works out, and hopefully some of you at our other media outlets will in time feel a bit more informed.
Ja Kjære Patric.
As I said in an earlier article:
“Some have asked me why they can’t post responses on this blog. Well, you see: This is a Tumblr blog, and as such you will have to subscribe to it for 2 weeks before the “Reply” option becomes available. “
Not the best of situations, but there you go.
Teslagrad in all its dark majesty.
I know it is a real hassle to register with tumblr in order to be able to do so, but I would really like some comments on this.
Gamejam was recently held all over the world, and here in Bergen the Rain team joined in. We spread out thin over several teams, but got a lot of nice little games out of it. It is always nice to see so many students being well on their way to becoming great game designers themselves.
If you would like to see some of the games, Bjarte made some videos of them, and posted them here!
We, Vosstopia, Mentalfish, D-pad studios, Badgerpunch and Turbotape Games have created Spillmakerlauget, an organization so far primarily for companies and students working with or studying games in Western Norway.
We are looking to extend our circle of influence, and create some other local branches in other parts of Norway, but that is in the future. For now I can link to our homepage that has articles and a forum open for one and all who would like to know what is going on.
Hope to see you at www.spillmakerlauget.no

For a competition a while ago we made a racer in an abstract world where the whole landscape warped and changed based on your speed. Staying low to the ground increases acceleration. This game ends up going really fast and is lots of fun, but unfortunately for us all the presentations ended up being made on an old computer. This killed the physics in our game, and our presentation ultimately crashed. The game was made in 10 days, so nothing was really stress-tested in any way.
We are still thinking of releasing it in some form someday, and we are very satisfied with what we could do with limited time and assets. It even looks great in my opinion. The choice of a style that lends itself well to repetition and tiling was crucial.
The airscape above is actually a reverse image of the pitch, so it too warps according to your speed. The overall effect is visually clear, yet psychedelic at the same time.
